SUNRISE — A waitress was bicycling home from work just after midnight Saturday when she was hit by a vehicle and left lying in the road unconscious and seriously injured, police said.

A white Raleigh mountain bike with a damaged rear rim and tire was found in the swale near the woman in the 12600 block of West Sunrise Boulevard across from Sawgrass Mills Mall, said Officer Michelle Eddy, a spokeswoman for the Sunrise Police Department.

Police were called to scene about12:05 a.m.

“The vehicle and driver left the scene without rendering aid to the female who was left lying in the roadway severely injured and unconscious,” Eddy said.

The woman, dressed in black head to toe, was hospitalized with “severe, lifethreatening injuries,” Eddy said. The woman’s name was not disclosed.

Investigators are the hoping to solve the hit-and-run case with surveillance video from nearby businesses and the public’s help, Eddy said.

The make and model of the vehicle that hit the woman in front of a Chickfilrestaurant is not known. The vehicle likely has front-enddamage, Eddy said.
