Roster spots will be up for the taking

An early look at players who are on the bubble

- KELLY, 2C

One of the main criticisms about last year’s Miami Dolphins team was that the roster lacked depth.

That criticism should be a thing of the past based on themoves Miami made this offseason.

The Dolphins have overhauled last year’s team so much that players who ended the season on Miami’s 53-man roster in 2016 may not beworthy of being on the secondteam offense or defense.

Here is a look at 15 Dolphins players who need to impress during training camp (practices begin July 27) and the exhibition season to secure their spot on the 53-man regular-season roster:

Defensive endTerrence Fede: A formerMarist standout the Dolphins selected in the seventh-round of the 2014 draft, Fede contributed 40 tackles, one sack and one safety in the 35 games he’s played in the past three years. He’s an athletic defensive end who has a ton of special teams value, but Fede must be productive in the exhibition season to retain his spot because that unit is pretty deep heading into camp.

Offensive lineman Anthony Steen: One of the biggest surprises of last year’s training camp, Steen not only made the 53-man roster as a long shot but started seven games at center before a knee injury began to impact his performance late in the season and got him benched. The former Alabama starter is viewed as a front-runner to earn a roster spot as a backup at the interior spots on the offensive line, but the competition will be tougher this year.

Defensive tackleNickWilliams: Miami claimedWilliams off thewaiver wire last season after the former seventh-round pickwaswaived by Kansas City. Williams
