Pahokee High, FSU standout not retiring

FORT LAUDERDALE— Anquan Boldin hasn’t even given a though to retirement despite playing in the NFL for 14 seasons.

From his viewpoint, the former Pahokee High product and Florida State standout is putting the finishes touches on what could be a Hall of Fame career. To enhance his resume Boldin wants to take a stab at winning another championship, and to do so he needs to keep playing.

That’s why Boldin said he has a visit with an NFL team set up this Sunday, but he wouldn’t disclose the team for negotiating purposes.

“I’ve been talking to teams for a while,” said Boldin, who has 1,076 career catches for 13,779 yards and has scored 83 touchdowns during an accomplished career with the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions. “It’s just a matter of me choosing a team and signing with them.”

Boldin, who caught 67 passes for 584 yards and eight touchdowns last season with the Lions, expects to sign with an NFL team by the time training camp opens up nextweek.

He joined the Lions during

the first week of camp last year and started all 16 games.

“I’ve been talking to teams the entire offseason,” said Boldin, who will turn 37 in October. “They understand the way that I train, and the fact that I train at XPE, any team that I go to knows that when I come [into camp] I’m in top shape, and they don’t have toworry it.”

Boldin said training with Tony Villani, owner of South Florida based XPE Sports, which opened up a new facility in Fort Lauderdale this month, keeps him young because he’s constantly being pushed by younger players, and draft prospects.

According to Boldin his background as a college quarterback and understanding of multiple NFL offenses typically helps him pick up playbooks quickly, so if he doesn’t sign with a team next week he’s not concerned.

Boldin made it clear he’s

“I’m going into year 15 so the only thing on my mind is winning.” Anquan Boldin

playing in 2017 because of his pursuit of greatness, championships, and not for the money. Last year he signed a one-year deal with the Lions, which paid him $2.75 million.

“I’m going into year 15 so the only thingonmymindis winning. I’ve earned enough money to take care of me, my family and my kid’s kids,” said Boldin, who will host students from his Q81 Foundation for a day of workouts at XPE and fun activities at Xtreme Action Park on Wednesday. “I’ve won a championship [with the Ravens]. I know how that feels so Iwant a taste of it again. I want to line up with a team that’s in position to win right now.”
