Marlins receive in trade ...

-

The Miami Marlins traded reliever David Phelps to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. Here is a look at the four prospects coming back in the deal. OF BRAYAN HERNANDEZ Age: 19 Height/weight: 6-foot-2, 175 pounds Original signing: International amateur, Venezuela, 2014 ($1.85 million) Mariners prospect ranking (via MLB Pipeline): Sixth Marlinsminor league assignment: Short-season A Batavia

2017 stats: .252 average, .306 OBP, .408 slugging percentage, eight extra-base hits (four triples), 26 strikeouts in 103 at-bats

Notable: Hernandez, the big get in the Marlins’ haul in this trade, is still raw and several years away from potentially reaching the majors, but the tools are there. He’s fast and should have more pop as he fills out. President of baseball operations Michael Hill said the Marlins scouted him on the international market. “We like the package he represents,” Hill said.

RHP BRANDON MILLER Age: 22 Height/weight: 6-foot-4, 210 pounds Original signing: Sixth-round draft pick in 2016 Mariners prospect ranking: 16th Marlinsminor league assignment: Low-A Greensboro (rotation)

2017 stats: 18 starts, 3.65 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, .254 opponents’ batting average, 94 strikeouts and 23 walks in 101 innings

Notable: After playing for Division II Millersville, Miller playing in the lowest level of full-season pro ball at age 22 is not out of the ordinary. His fastball won’t blow anybody away, sitting in the low-90s, but he has an above-average slider and good control. Hill said Miller projects as a major league starter.

RHP PABLO LOPEZ Age: 21 Height/weight: 6-foot-3, 200 pounds Original signing: International amateur, Venezuela, 2012 ($280,000) Mariners prospect ranking: 22nd Marlinsminor league assignment: High-A Jupiter (rotation)

2017 stats: 19 games (18 starts), 5.04 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, .279 opponents’ batting average, 89 strikeouts and 13 walks in 100 innings.

Notable: Lopez’s overall numbers aren’t impressive, but his control is, with Lopez walking 1.17 batters per nine innings (while striking out 8.01 per nine). He missed all of 2014 with Tommy John surgery and didn’t make his full-season debut until last year, so his minor league journey is only getting started in earnest.

RHP LUKAS SCHIRALDI Age: 23 Height/weight: 6-foot-6, 210 pounds Original signing: 15th-round draft pick in 2014 Mariners prospect ranking: Unranked Marlinsminor league assignment: High-A Jupiter (bullpen)

2017 stats: 28 games, 4.58 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, .213 opponents’ batting average, 15.2 K/9, 6.5 BB/9

Notable: Schiraldi is the wild card. The closer for Seattle’s High-A affiliate, Schiraldi throws hard and strikes out a ton of batters, but also walks a ton. “It’s pretty electric stuff,” Hill said. “There has been a little command challenge, but we think we can get that straightened out similar to the way we were able to acquire Kyle Barraclough and take advantage of the asset and get him on the right track toward the big leagues.” Schiraldi is the son of former major leaguer Calvin Schiraldi.
