Second video adds to outrage

- Kara Duffy, WPEC-CBS12

A new video has deepened the outrage over boaters suspected of abusing sharks.

The video shows a hammerhead shark being drowned in beer.

A hand can be seen pouring the beer all over the shark with the caption, “Who needs a beer bong.”

Officials say this one appears to be tied to at least one of the men involved in a shark-dragging video earlier this week.

In that clip, four menwere shown laughing as they violently dragged a shark, tied by its tail, behind a highspeed boat, its body smacking against the boat’swake.

The video ignited a firestorm on the Internet and sparked an investigation by the Florida Fish andWildlife Conservation Commission.

As part of its protocol, theFWC has declined to release or confirm the names of the men involved.

However, because these videoswere posted and shared on social media, thousands of angry viewers and commenterswere easily able to trace it back to the individuals thought to be involved.

As of Friday, more than four thousand people signed a petition posted at Change.org demanding wildlife officials revoke the men’s fishing licenses and punish them for their actions.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Florida Fish andWildlife Conservation Commission said:

“It is too early to speculate as to what, if any, violations took place in this incident. However, theFWCwould like to state that that the lack of respect shown in this video for our precious natural resources is disheartening and disturbing, and is not representative of conservation-minded anglers around theworld.”

The investigation is continuing.
