Police identify suspect in slaying of man on his porch
A 44-year-old man with felony convictions dating to 1990, including a murder conviction, is wanted for shooting and killing a man on his porch near Fort Lauderdale, police said.
A warrant has been issued for Hubert Blount’s arrest.
A short while after having an altercation with Blount’s sister on Tuesday, Andre Thomas, 41, was sitting on his porch when Blount walked up and shot him numerous times, said Keyla Concepcion, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff ’s Office.
Blount ran away from the home near the Swap Shop in the 1100 block of Northwest 30th Terrace, Concepcion said.
The shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. Thomas was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he died at 9:19 p.m., Concepcion said.
Blount has done three stints in Florida state prisons, records show.
He was first locked up in 1990 for attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery. He served three years and four months.
Blount next was sentenced in 1996 to six years in prison for a second-degree murder conviction.
His third term was for cocaine possession. He served nine months and was released in February 2007.
