Cavaliers’ single visit to Miami set for March

Heat to host Cavs once in 2017-18.

MIAMI — This time the decision for LeBron James about whether to grace the court at AmericanAirlines Arena will be singular, with the Cleveland Cavaliers scheduled for only one visit this coming season.

As part of the formula designed to balance NBA schedules, two Eastern Conference teams make only one visit to Miami each season, with the other 12 East opponents visiting twice and each Western Conference team visiting once. This season the East teams with the lone trips to South Florida are James’ Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors.

For James, that means only one opportunity as a visitor against the Miami Heat, in this case in March, as independently confirmed by the Sun Sentinel through an NBA source.

James, who left the Heat as a free agent in the 2014 offseason, has sat out three of the Cavaliers’ past four visits to AmericanAirlines Arena, including both last season, often sitting out select late-season games.

The Cavaliers have yet to win at AmericanAirlines Arena, going 0-6, since James left the Heat following four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals in his only seasons with the team and championships with the Heat in 2012 and ’13.
