After a deluge, there’s a chance of more rain today.
More than 3 inches of rain fell on parts of South Florida on Thursday as a mass of clouds and showers kept the area gray and wet for much of the day.
Will it continue into the weekend? Each day through Monday will see a good chance of showers and thunderstorms, which of course is normal for this time of year.
“We are in Florida so it’s possible any thunderstorm could bring 3 inches of rain — but it probably wouldn’t be as widespread,” said Steven Ippoliti, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Miami-South Florida forecast office.
There is about a 50 percent chance of seeing rain and storms today. After that, the likelihood of showers will continue to return to the normal summer weather pattern we see in South Florida, with about a 30 percent chance on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
“The weekend looks like it’s going to go back to a more normal pattern,” Ippoliti said.
And the heat goes on. Today is expected to be sweltering with the actual temperature in Fort Lauderdale reaching a high of about 92 degrees — with the heat index or “feels like” temperature hitting about 103 degrees.
Saturday through Monday will also see actual temperature highs in the low 90s, forecasters said.
By Thursday morning 3.38 inches of rain had been recorded at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, according to the National Weather Service. In Boca Raton, according to the South Florida Water Management District, 3.63 inches of rain accumulation was recorded in Boca Raton.
The moisture was the product of a low-pressure system that had moved off the Bahamas and was passing westward over South Florida. The rainy conditions triggered flood advisories for parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties on Thursday.
