Ethan Skolnick, a wellknown figure in South Florida sports reporting, has been arrested on battery charges.

Skolnick, most recently the host of “The Ethan Skolnick Show” on 790-AM radio, The Ticket, is accused of beating up someone identified only as a 70-year-old man, according to a Boca Raton police arrest report.

Skolnick, 44, who lives in Miramar, was taken into custody shortly after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, records show.

He faces a charge of battery on a person 65 years or older and was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.

Police said the battery happened after officers were called to a residence in Boca Raton to check on Skolnick after his estranged wife told authorities the two were going through a divorce and she was worried about his well-being because she had been unable to contact him for several days, according to the arrest report.

At the residence, police were able to speak with Skolnick and found him to be “calm and cooperative,” the report said.

The address of the residence and the identities of the people who live there were blacked out of the report.

Moments after police left, they were called back to the home and were met by one of the residents, a man, who told officers “he beat me up,” police wrote.

The man had a bloody nose, an injury to his left arm and a torn shirt, the report said.

One of the residents told officers “Ethan went nuts” because he believed they had called the police, the arrest report said.

Skolnick is a former sports columnist for the Sun Sentinel, the Miami Herald and the Palm Beach Post.
