BCPS offers Back to School online resource Broward County Mayor seeks high school artists

As the year draws closer, parents can find a multitude of Back to School resources on the Broward County Public Schools District website.

Informatio­n about the school calendar; school opening and closing times; the Code Book for Student Conduct; before and after school child care; breakfast and lunch menus; transporta­tion services; back to school immunizati­ons and more are available at browardsch­ools.com/backtoscho­ol.

Students in grades 9-12 who love to create have an opportunit­y to submit entries for the Mayor’s Art Challenge.

Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief, along with all the county commission­ers, will select one first place winner and one runner up from each of the nine districts in the county. The top artists will receive cash prizes and be honored at a County Commission meeting. On Oct. 21, the winning pieces will be auctioned off and proceeds will benefit the United Way.

Students can go to broward.org/ Arts/PublicArt/Pages/Calls.aspx to apply. Applicatio­ns are due by Monday, Aug. 28. navigating the school system and learn about what rights their children have, including having a private profession­al, being informed on school funding and being eligible for exemptions from standardiz­ed testing.
