Fisher praises Francois’ decisions

TALLAHASSEE — Jimbo Fisher and the No. 3 Florida State football team began their game preparation Wednesday for their highly anticipated opener against No. 1 Alabama on Sept. 2 in Atlanta.

The Seminoles hope to build on Sunday’s successful scrimmage. Fisher praised QB Deondre Francois, his offensive line, FSU’s defense and Ks Ricky Aguayo and Logan Tyler for their performances.

Fisher was most pleased with his team’s competitive edge, an efficient scrimmage with few penalties and explosive plays without other players suffering a miscue. He also praised Francois’ decision-making, game-management skills and understanding game situations.

“He was very aggressive with the ball, but smart with the ball, which I was very pleased with,” Fisher said of Francois. “He made throws. If they were off, they’d be off in the right area where no one would get it or we’d make the plays and tight throws.”

FSU officials clarified junior WR Da’Vante Phillips, who was arrested on felony fraud charges earlier this month, is still part of the team but remains suspended indefinitely.

When asked about LB Matthew Thomas and others absent from practice Tuesday, Fisher said, “All those guys — the guys that are out, we’re expecting them back. It could be any day.”

Fisher did not include Phillips among the list who missed practice, an FSU official said.
