TV stations will broadcast recap of pet adoption drive.

Almost 2,000 cats and dogs found new homes as part of “Clear the Shelters,” an initiative by NBC 6 (WTVJ) and sister station Telemundo 51 (WSCV).

Now, to recap some of those adoptions, WTVJ will host a “Clear the Special” post-adoption program at 7 tonight, with author Beth Stern and the Cooking Channel’s Katie Lee. WSCV will run its special at noon Saturday, with Mexican TV host Stephanie “Chiquibaby” Himonidis and Los Angeles-based Telemundo entertainment reporter Elva Saray.

The programs will introduce viewers to some of the pets — and people who adopted them — from seven South Florida shelters throughout Palm Beach, Broward, MiamiDade and Monroe counties. They will air in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami TV market.

The Miramar-based stations’ joint effort, on Aug. 19, was part of a national program that was started in 2015 by NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations.

During “Clear the Shelters,” adoptions fees are waived or reduced.

“It is amazing to see so many shelters and pet rescues willing to waive or deeply discount adoption fees on ‘Clear the Shelters’ day to help place hundreds of animals in loving homes,” said Larry Olevitch, president and general manager of WTVJ.

Overall, stations nationwide have helped facilitate more than 140,000 pet adoptions.

“We are proud to continue working with our area shelters in this great initiative, which is an integral part of our commitment to serving our community,” said Jorge Carballo, WSCV’s president and general manager.
