Have fun playing
Beach camp, outdoor lounging, beer olympics, and yoga with goats.
Labor Day weekend is finally upon us, which means an extra day in the sun before fall rolls through. (Who are we kidding — it’s always summer in South Florida!) There’s plenty to do from Palm Beach to Miami Beach, so get out there and have some fun.
Camp Nikki Beach brunch, 1 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday
Unleash your inner kid and spend the day at summer camp — sort of. Nikki Beach will host a camp-themed brunch complete with tug-of-war and potato sack races. Of course, what’s camp without bug juice and s’mores? There will be a do-it-yourself s’mores station, but leave the bug juice cocktail to the professionals. The beverage is made with vodka, blue curaçao, orange juice, prosecco and gummy worms.
Nikki Beach’s all-youcan-eat outdoor brunch costs $50. Menu items range from paella and pasta to waffles and eggs Benedict. There’s also prime rib, sushi and a Bloody Mary bar, all of which can be eaten at tables or on day beds.
Shore Club Sessions, 1901 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; noon to 8 p.m. Sunday
Relax on this Sunday Funday, either in the sun on a day bed or cooling off in the Shore Club’s Olympic-size pool. Miami-based DJ Patrick M will spin his funky deep house music, along with Louis Dee and Ollie Sanders. On Sunday, Shore Club will serve $25 pitchers of white sangria, berry lemonade and watermelon smash, which is made with vodka, strawberries, ginger beer and agave nectar. Guests can also purchase light bites such as chicken wings and shrimp tacos. The day party is free.
Summer Beer Olympics, Rumors Bar & Grill, 2426 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors; 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday
Grab five friends and head to Rumors Bar & Grill for the Summer Beer Olympics. The event takes place every summer and winter; this year, proceeds will benefit Smart Ride, a 165-mile, two-day bike ride from Miami to Key West raising money for HIV and AIDS.
It costs $10 per person to play on teams of six. The price includes beer, and there will be a lot. Drinking games include quarters, beer pong and flip cup, plus water balloon dodgeball and ice cube tray chug, where you’re asked to chug a beer-filled ice cube tray using a straw. The final two teams will go headto-head in a relay race that includes scooters, dizzy bat and life-size beer pong. Winners will receive prizes such as a staycation at the Windamar Beach Resort and passes to Xtreme Action Park.
Kids with Kids Yoga with Little Goats, Krazy Hearts Farm, 16747 Fox Trail Lane, Loxahatchee; 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday
Forget downward dog! Say naaaaaa-maste at the kids’ event. Children can do yoga in a field with baby goats, also known as kids, at the Krazy Hearts Farm. Alison Berkery leads the open-air gentle flow class that includes games, sing-song and a rainbow parachute. Of course, some traditional postures are incorporated as well. There’s no cap on the age for participation, though Krazy Hearts Farm co-owner Korinne Johnson says the most suitable ages fall between 7 and 12. Anyone older than that might feel the class is too “babyish,” she says. Children as young as 3 can participate as long as they’re accompanied by an adult. The class costs $30 for [human] kids and $25 for adults. Mats are available by donation-based rental.
