“C’mon people, now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, learn to love one another right now!”

Sound familiar? This song was written during yet another time of upheaval in this country, but we never learn, do we? There is good and bad in every human being, even Donald Trump. But we never seem to get reports of the good — however sparse they may be — and magnified reports of the bad.

The president and first lady went to Texas, and all we could be concerned with were the shoes that Melania wore — a glaring testimony to the press coverage. “Learn to love one another,” indeed. People are suffering greatly. The president went to observe and assess, and, aside from being able to “part the waters,” did what every president would do.

I did not vote for Mr. Trump, but, as a patriotic American, I try, hard as it may be, to weigh the reports — good and bad — and make my own decisions; not Democrat or Republican.

Congress and the Senate are so busy “dissing” one another that the country is at a standstill. Radical anything doesn’t have to do unto us, they just have to watch us do unto ourselves, and implode. Get with it, Americans, get with it! SunSentine­l.com/ opinion/letters

style. It was a bit harder to come up with someone named Forrest, but maybe for fictional character Forrest Gump, in honor of our citizens with special needs? It sure would make things easier.
