View on marijuana dispensaries alarming

- Howard Schellenberg, Plantation Douglas Green, Davie

I strongly object to Boca Raton City Councilman Robert Weinroth’s Aug. 30 comments about “concerns for public safety” in communities with medical marijuana dispensaries.

Mr. Weinroth states he voted along with 72 percent of Florida for medical marijuana access for seriously ill patients. Good decision. However, now that actual patients can possibly receive their medication in his city, he suddenly has “concerns.”

He cites the fact that cannabis is still federally restricted. It was federally restricted when you voted “Yes,” councilman. Try again.

Mr. Weinroth seems especially worried by the reality that “dispensaries can be opened in virtually any location.” Guess where he is most worried about a dispensary opening. I’m equally worried after reading his viewpoint, but I’m worried about an elected official who can’t read what he voted for and one who would restrict access to medicine for sick and dying patients in his own town. in charge of an $800 million bond program approved three years ago from having already executed the repairs necessary to remediate or prevent mold-ridden schools smack of incompetence and indifference — and possible corruption.

This situation begs the following questions: Would the people responsible for these decisions let this scenario play out in their own homes? Would they let their family members or children work at or attend schools with hazardous mold conditions? How many teachers and students must suffer from debilitating headaches, lung or body infections, cancer, or worse due to mold exposure before all requisite structural, roofing, air conditioning, and mold remediation repairs are expedited without delay? Those responsible for this mismanagement need to be held accountable.
