Hollywood, Surfside, Hallandale, Dania Beach, the town of Palm beach, South Palm Beach, Lake Worth, Juno Beach and Jupiter also prohibit balloons at the beach.

Violating Palm Beach County park rules can carry a fine of up to $500, but park officials say they will be writing warnings, rather than issuing fines.

Broward County initiated a ban on balloons in 2014 at its natural and aquatic areas.

Palm Beach County commission­ers recently adopted a resolution calling for a ban of plastic bags in stores in coastal communitie­s.

The state doesn’t allow communitie­s to regulate plastic bags, which are also mistaken by turtles as food.
