Hurricanes set for kickoff against Toledo

- By Christy Cabrera Chirinos Staff writer

The Miami Hurricanes aren’t quite sure when they’ll return to the practice field in the wake of Hurricane Irma, but they do know when they’ll kick off for their next scheduled game.

Miami’s game against Toledo, scheduled for Sept. 23 at Hard Rock Stadium, is set for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff, the ACC announced on Monday. The game will be broadcast on the ACC’s Regional Sports Network.

The Hurricanes, who saw their Sept. 9 game at Arkansas State canceled because of Irma, have not practiced since last Tuesday.

Miami athletic director Blake James said on Monday he isn’t sure when the Hurricanes will return to practice, but he doesn’t expect that will happen until at least Thursday, if even then.

Safety assessments at the UM campus in Coral Gables were underway Monday morning and classes at the school have been canceled until at least Sept. 18.

According to a message posted by the university on Twitter on Monday, the campus currently has “major safety hazards” and it remains closed as assessments continue.

Miami’s game at Arkansas State wasn’t the only one affected by Hurricane Irma. This weekend, the ACC announced Miami’s Sept. 16 game at Florida State was rescheduled for Oct. 7 in Tallahassee.

Meanwhile, because the ACC requires teams that play on Thursdays to have equal or full rest, Miami’s Oct. 12 game against Georgia Tech has been pushed back to Oct. 14 at Hard Rock Stadium.

Kickoff times for those two games have announced yet.

Because of Irma, the Hurricanes haven’t played since their 41-13 seasonopening win over Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 2. not been
