■ Indians: Two-time All-Star 2B Jason Kipnis will see time in the outfield after rookie CF Bradley Zimmer broke his left hand Sunday. Kipnis, who will soon come off the DL (hamstring), was an outfielder in college and when he began his minor-league career. “I’m pretty sure I’ve still got it in me,” Kipnis said. “I think I can still do it.” Kipnis took some fly balls during batting practice Monday. Since Kipnis has been out, Jose Ramirez shifted from third to second with Giovanny Urshela taking over at third. Kipnis agrees both are solid defensive players and give the Indians a stronger alignment. “I’m not blind,” Kipnis said. “I can see it.”

■ Tigers: RHP Michael Fulmer will undergo elbow surgery Tuesday and miss the rest of the season. The 2016 AL rookie of the year is having a damaged nerve fixed. Manager Brad Ausmus said Fulmer would not throw for “three or four months” but that the 24-year-old All-Star was expected to recover fully and should be ready for spring training. Fulmer went 10-12 with a 3.83 ERA in 25 starts. Experiencing numbness in his fingers, he lost his last six decisions and didn’t win after July 15. Fulmer went 11-7 with a 3.06 ERA in 26 games last season. He became the fifth Tigers player to win rookie honors and first since Justin Verlander in 2006.

■ Marlins: The retractable roof at Marlins Park apparently suffered minor damage when Hurricane Irma hit Miami. Photos posted to social media show part of the roof ’s membrane torn away. The Marlins did not say whether the damage threatened their next homestand, scheduled to begin Friday against the Brewers.

■ Rays: The Rays hope to return home to Tropicana Field for a three-game series against the Red Sox that starts Friday. Hurricane Irma caused this week’s series with the Yankees to be moved to the Mets’ home, Citi Field. “From what I've heard, the Trop had some minor damage,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “I’m optimistic we’ll get there.”
