Striking support

Bowling alley hosts two fundraisers

- By Emily Bloch Staff writer

One local bowling alley has been throwing nothing but strikes these days — at least in the philanthropic sense.

Sparez in Davie has been the site of two recent and successful fundraisiers.

On Sept. 3, Agape Hearts hosted its Bowling With Dad event.

“Not every child is lucky enough to have a father present in their life,” the event promotion read. “Here is a great opportunity for fathers and father figures to connect with their children.”

The event was hosted by Agape Hearts — a nonprofit dedicated to strained relationships between fathers and their children. The organization provides help with aspects like temporary housing, education and finding a job.

“Bowling with Dad is an event that gives fathers the unique opportunity to interact with their children and engage with other dads,” Agape Hearts founder Natacha Noel said. “The event is special because it shines a light on the unbreakable bond that is shared between a father and his children.”

Agape Hearts’ Miami chapter is organized the Davie event. Additional Bowling With Dad functions will take place in Orlando and Jacksonville.

The Memorial Rehabilitation Institute also hosted a Bowl-AThon fundraising event at Sparez, an event which drew more than 300 participants.

The money goes toward providing adaptive water aerobics, adaptive chair yoga, adaptive scuba diving, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis over the year.

“For many of our participants, funds are a barrier that stand in their way from actively participating in sporting events,” the center said. “Proceeds will assist with access, transportation, entry fees and sponsorships for our adaptive athletes.”
