Former school worker who targeted kids gets 10 years
A former after-care worker at Plantation Middle School who admitted trying to convince three underage boys to have sex with him was sentenced this week to 10 years and one month in prison.
Investigators began looking at Roosevelt Miller in March after a 13-year-old boy told school officials that Miller had sent him inappropriate sexual messages and texts on his cellphone. Two other boys, both age 14, later reported Miller had also sent them
Miller, 20, pleaded guilty in June to three federal counts of using a cellphone to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.
Prosecutors said he had approached seven boys using phone apps such as Instagram, FaceTime and Kik after getting their contact information from sign-in sheets for sports activities at the Plantation Middle School after-care program, where he was a counselor. The after-care program ran no such activities.
He offered the similar messages. young boys money and Disney World in for sexual favors.
Miller had been hired by the contractor that runs the program and was fired after his arrest.
