Rubio, Florida stands to lose on health care

- Michael Schlossberg, Delray Beach Mary Ann D’Angio, Boynton Beach Dennis Michaels, Deerfield Beach

We have not heard from Sen. Marco Rubio concerning his vote. I am sure he realizes his constituency, especially from Miami-Dade, has the highest participation in the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) than anywhere in the United States. I am sure he knows the state of Florida has lost about $5 billion by not expanding Medicaid. He surely knows federal funding for Medicaid will be further reduced in Florida if the Graham-Cassidy bill becomes law.

Rubio also is aware that if approved, the bill would give more power to the governor on Medicaid Block Grants, even though our governor led a hospital company that committed Medicare fraud. Even more important, it could bring back pre-existing conditions. The ACA needs help and changes and corrections.

Rubio, who do you represent? procedures (which make up only 3 percent of that budget), but deprive millions of Americans of necessary health care and cancer screenings.

The Republican bill is a “death sentence” for millions of their supporters; not just Democrats or independents. All this to please a president who is devoid of empathy for anyone but himself; has shown no loyalty to the party that supported him; and just wants to put a check in the legislative “win” column. It’s about time our utility commission protects the consumer instead of protecting FPL’s stock holders. FPL must pay for its mistakes. If it doesn’t, then FPL is in essence an unregulated monopoly that will continue to prey on its customers to the benefit of its stockholders.
