Citizens want health care collaboration

- Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22), Boca Raton Arnie Dickerman, Lake Worth

This week, Republican senators are pitching backroom deals to buy the last few votes needed to pass a bitter, partisan health bill. It’s a bill that will blow up our health system and shred popular consumer protections guaranteeing coverage of pre-existing conditions without caps and price gouging.

This comes after Republicans wasted seven years on political grandstanding. Now, they are rushing forward without substantive hearings or official estimates detailing the tens of millions who will pay more and lose insurance.

Early estimates indicate the Graham-Cassidy health care bill would devastate Florida. A toxic mix of cutting Medicaid, gutting consumer protections, and ending financial assistance would cause 3.2 million Floridians to lose coverage, and Florida taxpayers would need to find a way to replace $9.7 billion in federal funding.

Americans want Republicans and Democrats to work together. They want solutions that cut costs and improve lives. That’s what we should all be working toward. SunSentinel.com/opinion/ letters

American Olympic medal winner proudly standing as the American flag is hoisted while our national anthem is being played, I can share and feel the aura of being a proud American.

The right for freedom of speech can be expressed in our great country in a variety of ways by the disaffected, but it seems a betrayal of being an American to dishonor our flag and national anthem by not standing in respect to our country, particularly as it allows the freedom of speech afforded to all of us.
