Sharks roll past Stallions to stay perfect

DELRAY BEACH — Daniel Luque remembers last time University School visited American HeritageDe­lray.

It was 2011 and Luque served as assistant for the team — then the Suns — as they faced the Stallions in the Class 3A regional finals. American Heritage-Delray put an end to the University School’s season, topping the Suns 31-20 en route to a state title.

Six years later, Luque — now the program’s head coach — exacted revenge on the Stallions’ home turf.

On Friday, the Sharks rolled into Delray Beach and beat American Heritage 35-14 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Senior quarterbac­k George Bubrick finished 10-19 for 168 yards passing, three touchdowns and no intercepti­ons. Junior wideout Zay Flowers caught three passes for 79 yards and two scores, while running back Kenny McIntosh accounted for 131 total yards and two touchdowns.

“It makes my job incredibly easy where I can throw a little swing pass to Kenny and he can take it 40 yards and make it look like I did all the work,” Bubrick said. “Zay Flowers, Kenny McIntosh, Michael Hurt, Josh Sanguinett­i, Jordan Irizarry, Christian Wells, all those guys. They get coached up amazing every single week and come out and perform.

“We believe we have one of the best wide receiving corps and offenses in the state.”

American Heritage-Delray (3-3) moved the ball with consistenc­y on the night, but broke down deep inside Sharks territory. The Stallions came up empty on three possession­s inside the University School 25-yard line.

University, ranked No. 1 in the AP’s Class 4A state poll, struck first on its opening possession. After taking over on its own 24-yard line, the Sharks drove downfield behind a pair of big plays from running back McIntosh. The highly-touted junior capped off the drive with an 18-yard touchdown catch from Bubrick to give University an early 7-0 lead.
