Just down the street from Miami’s bustling Dadeland Mall is the newest medical marijuana store to open in South Florida.

Curaleaf, at 9002 S. Dadeland Blvd., in the Downtown Dadeland retail/residential development, has been drawing curious passers-by since starting operations on Sept. 21.

“We get a lot of people stopping by, ‘Oh, what is this?’ ” said store manager Michael Costa, standing inside the 1,000-foot store. “The perception of people stopping by has been overwhelming positive. It’s not what people expect. It’s a nice, clean, welcoming environment.”

The sleek-looking Curaleaf store, with its leafy hue and white trim, sells cannabis capsules, oils, vaporizer pens and cartridges for patients who have a prescription and a state of Florida identification card for medical marijuana use.

The products sit inside display cases with their size and prices listed. A 600-milligram bottle of cannabis oil is listed for $90, while a bottle of 10-milligram capsules costs $26. The store also sells hats, totes and Tshirts. There’s a private room where new patients can receive a consultation on the various products and their prescriptions. Informational videos explaining the various products also play.

Costa said dispensaries don’t accept checks or credit cards. So patients pay in cash or use CanPay, a debit payment app for cannabis retailers. There is an ATM inside the store.

The store also offers free delivery to consumers in Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

“As one of the first and top-ranked medical cannabis licensees in Florida, Curaleaf is committed to making this life-changing treatment available and accessible to all, so that suffering patients can find true relief,” Gregg Roberts, chief executive officer of Curaleaf, said in a release. The company was formerly known as Modern Health Concepts.

“We want the community to know that we are committed to safety, accessibility, exceptional quality, and superior customer service,” he added.

The company plans to open another retail store in Lake Worth, at 1125 N. Dixie Highway. Officials have not announced a date for that location.
