PLANTATION Cooper City High School junior standout Kathleen Golding had a memorable performance at the 2017 BCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Plantation Aquatic Complex on Saturday.

Golding set a BCAA record in the women’s 200-yard IM and the 100-yard freestyle.

Golding jumped ahead of the field early and cruised with a time of 2:02.93 in the 200-yard IM. She broke Douglas High School’s Lindsey McKnight’s record of 2:03.64 from 2009.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Golding’s time of 51.40 surpassed Cypress Bay’s Tiffany Oliver’s record of 52.10, also eight years ago.

“It means a lot to set the two records,” Golding said. “I wanted to represent my school well and it’s a big honor. I felt good and wanted to go out as fast as I can.”

Golding, a junior, earned 48 points and was tied with Fort Lauderdale’s Giulia Guerre Montes for first among the girls.

Golding previously set a BCAA record as a freshman in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.80 in 2015. She also previously won the 200-yard IM.

During her freshman year, Golding competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials.

WEST PALM BEACH — The hunt for high school swimming supremacy in Palm Beach County was on full display on Saturday night at the Lake Lytal Family Aquatic Center.

Saint Andrew’s senior Izaak Bastian broke three meet records enroute to being named the outstanding male swimmer of the meet. The three records belong to one of his coaches, Quinn Cassidy, who set the marks in 2012. Bastian’s efforts helped the Scots win a county-record eighth consecutive combined swimming county championship.

“I had a pretty good meet,” said Bastian, the reigning 2016 Sun Sentinel Palm Beach County Swimmer of the Year. In addition to the relay, Bastian won the 200 IM with a meet record of 1:53.19 and also won the 100-yard breaststroke (56.27), which was an All-America consideration time.

“It was nice to get Quinn’s record since he started coaching us a little bit more this year,” Bastian said.

The Trinity Christian duo of sophomore Nicole Gomez and junior Chade Nercisio were named the meet’s outstanding female swimmers. Both won multiple events and set meet or county records in the process.

Gomez won the 200-free (1:50.80) and broke the meet record with an AllAmerican consideration time of 4:53.37 in taking the 500-free, just tapping the wall ahead of Forest Hill freshman Anna Auld (4:53.43).

Nercisio won the Girls 100-free (50.47), which is a world junior time, and picked up an Automatic All-American time in winning the 50-free (23.10).

Trinity Christian’s girls 200-free relay composed of Eriana Temperino, Gomez, Hailey Rudd, and Nercisio set a meet record and also picked up an All-America consideration time of 1:36.74. The girls 400-free relay also took home first in an All-American consideration time of 3:28.81. It was composed of Temperino, Gomez, Shauna Abair and Nercisio.

In addition to the combined total (733.50), Saint Andrew’s also had the highest girls team total with 399 points and boys (334.50). Jupiter High was second in the girls and third in the boys, while Trinity Christian was third in the girls, while Boca High was second in the boys.

Saint Andrew’s 200-yard boys medley relay made up of junior Josh Balbi, Bastian, and fellow seniors Jessie Marsh and Sam Gibson clocked an All America consideration time of 1:34.90. The Saint Andrew’s boys also won the 200-free relay (1:27.72).

Marsh won the 100-fly.
