Gran fiesta
College celebrates Hispanic heritage
Hispanic Heritage Month wraps up on Oct. 15, and Broward College is celebrating until the very end.
Two of the college’s nine events remain on its Davie campus — a festival on Oct. 8 and a discussion on Oct. 9.
“Diversity is one of the characteristics which make Broward College so special,” said Central Campus President and Vice President of Student Services Marielena DeSanctis. “More than 35 percent of our students identify as Hispanic and many more faculty and staff, including me, trace their roots to Latin countries, each one contributing to our vibrant campus culture.”
On Oct. 8, the Davie campus will hold a festival, featuring a photo exhibit, live music and traditional Hispanic food.
One day later on Oct. 9, the school will host a discussion on immigration, featuring filmmaker and speaker Jesus Nebot. After the discussion, Nebot will stick around for a meet and greet.
“Each September and October, we recognize these unique members of our community in our classrooms and in our campus activities for Hispanic Heritage Month,” DeSanctis said.
The Hispanic Heritage Festival takes place on Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the immigration discussion with Jesus Nebot is on Oct. 9 from noon to 2 p.m. Both events will be held on the Broward College A. Hugh Adams Central Campus, 3501 Davie Road in Davie in Building 19.
