Police comfort babies

Two women are scheduled to appear in drug court today after they were found passed out from apparent heroin overdoses with their infants inside an SUV, police said.

Boynton Beach police have released body camera footage of their officers responding to the overdose call Oct. 5 in a parking lot on the 500 block of Woolbright Road.

In that video, one of the officers is seen trying to soothe the 1-and 2-month-old screaming babies who were strapped in car seats.

“It’s OK, it’s OK,” the officer says softly while placing a pacifier inside a baby’s mouth.

In another part of the recording a paramedic at the scene can also hear that the overdose reversal drug Narcan was used during the call.

The two moms, Kristin O’Connor, 27, of Coral Springs, and June Schweinhart, 28, of Lake Worth, were treated at a hospital and then arrested and charged with child neglect.

Police said the pair told them they became friends after spending time in the same drug treatment center.

Florida’s Department of Children and Families is involved in the case and officials said the two infants have been placed with family members.

For now, a judge has ordered that O’Connor and Schweinhart are not allowed to have contact with one another and can see their children only with another adult present.
