The best of the more than 500 players to wear the Heat uniform
30 seasons in, who are Heat’s best of the best?
MIAMI – Well that has been quick, almost three full decades in he books. The Heat were the first major pro sports team to dare tep alongside the Miami Dolphins in the South Florida market n 1988, and now they head into their 30th-anniversary season. Along the way there have been the lowest of lows, including a air of 15-67 seasons and a 148-80 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers n Dec. 17, 1991 that still stands as the worst in NBA history. But there also have been three championships, including a pair powered by the Big Three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The long (7-foot-7 Manute Bol) and short (5-11 Travis Best) of it is that more than 500 players have passed through Miami Arena and AmericanAirlines Arena over these 30 seasons. Some barely were here (DeAndre Liggins, one career Heat regular-season game). And some never left (Udonis Haslem entering his 15th season). Some were lost before their time: Alec Kessler, Pat Cummings and Alan Ogg are all deceased. And some, such as newcomers Bam Adebayo and Kelly Olynyk, are now only getting started. Throughout this 30th-anniversary season, the Sun Sentinel will look back at decades of Miami Heat history, at the men and the moments that have made this an exhausting, exhilarating and enduring ride. Today we start with the best of the best, our take on the Heat’s 30th Anniversary Team, on page 9C
