Education Foundation announces 2017 honorees
The Broward Education Foundation has announced its 2017 Hall of Fame honorees.
These individuals are distinguished alumni of Broward County Public Schools that have moved on to become teachers, entrepreneurs, and civic and business leaders, having made significant contributions to the community along the way.
“We are exceedingly proud of the remarkable accomplishments and unwavering dedication of our illustrious honorees,” said Christina Fischer, chair of the Broward Education Foundation Board.
Plantation resident Keith Koenig is among the honorees being recognized this year. Koenig is the president and CEO of City Furniture, and is a graduate of Floranada Elementary, Richards Jr. High, and Northeast High School. He graduated from the high school in 1969.
“I'm honored and proud to be selected for this award,” said Koenig. “Broward County has a great school system and, by every measure, we are getting better every day.”
Koenig is being awarded the JM Family Enterprises Inc. Lifetime Achievement Award for his
more than 40 years of philanthropy and advocacy for education and children.
“We can be proud and brag on our teachers and administrators,” Koenig said. “We need to continue to support them and let them transform our kids to meet the challenges of the future.”
Koenig and his fellow honorees
will be recognized this month at the Publix Super Markets Charities Hall of Fame Breakfast, presented by Memorial Healthcare System.
“We appreciate the impact they have on our students, schools and community,” said Fischer. “It’s so important for us to pay it forward by inspiring, mentoring and supporting our students as they become the next generation of game changers.”
