WR Landry hopes he’ll remain with Dolphins

DAVIE — Wide receiver Jarvis Landry is in the Miami Dolphins’ long-term plans, coach Adam Gase said Wednesday before adding one important caveat — he doesn’t negotiate the contracts.

Landry, who is in the final year of his rookie deal, reportedly had his name mentioned in trade rumors during the offseason and there was speculation his name might have come up prior to Tuesday’s 4 p.m. trade deadline.

Gase said Wednesday he likes Landry and his other wide receivers.

“We told him a while ago … he wasn’t going anywhere,” Gase said. “We have a vision for what we want that wide receivers room to look like and we expect him to be a huge part of that. And however it works out down the road that’s hard for me to say because I don’t negotiate the contracts.”

Landry said he had “no true doubt in my mind that I will be here, and that has been the plan all along.”

Landry also said he hasn’t thought much about his contract situation.

“I want to be here,” he said. “As far as my talks with Adam and with everybody upstairs, it’s the same. For me, honestly since OTAs (organized team activities), since training camp, I’ve really just been focused on football.

“I’ve always believed the rest will take care of itself. It’s no time to change now. I still have the same thought, the same feeling about it. God will take care of it when it’s time.”

Suh disregards rumor

Over the weekend, a CBS Sports report suggested the Dolphins were preparing to part with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in the offseason. The Dolphins denied the report and Suh said he disregarded it.

But Suh was a bit vague when asked if he’s talked to owner Steve Ross about the report, saying, “Obviously we’ve been back in the facility, so obviously there’s been conversations about it and it’s kind of gone from there.”

Asked whether he’s talked to Ross about the report specifically, Suh replied, “With Mr. Ross specifically? I’ll leave that inhouse.”

No extra padding

Quarterback Jay Cutler, who sustained what Gase called “multiple cracked ribs” against the New York Jets, practiced Wednesday and is scheduled to start against Oakland on Sunday.

“I already wear some pretty good pads,” he said. “I don’t really want to reduce my mobility any more than I have to.”

DEs ailing, Parker practices

Defensive end William Hayes (hamstring) didn’t practice while fellow defensive end Andre Branch (groin), who didn’t play last week, was limited.

Cutler, center Mike Pouncey (hip/knee), right guard Jermon Bushrod (hand), and wide receiver DeVante Parker (ankle), who has missed the past three games, all had full practice participation.

Left guard Ted Larsen (biceps) also practiced and could be activated from the injured reserve list this week.

Changes made

Gase said the Dolphins are making numerous changes this week.

“We’re not going to keep doing the same thing and bang our head against the wall,” he said.

“We made some changes with how we’re meeting, how we’re going to walk through, how we’re going to schedule things, how we’re going to practice. We’re going to make changes.

“I’m not talking about personnel, I’m just talking about the way we’re going about things and the way that we’re teaching, the way that we game plan. That’s what we should be doing.”
