BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin has no plans to slow down his social-media game.

Even after his latest brush with possible NCAA violations, Kiffin said he will continue to tweet joking comments that sometimes are taken seriously. On Saturday, he caused a stir when he posted on Twitter about purposely not covering the pointspread.

“I’m not big into scaling back,” Kiffin said. “Someone told me it was like 60,000 likes or something like that. I’m not sitting there scrolling through. Usually people send me funny stuff.”

Last Friday, the Owls were a 6.5-point favorite against Marshall but failed to cover the spread because of a late intentional safety in their 30-25 victory. Kiffin chose to take a safety instead of risking a blocked down in

When Kiffin got word that some folks were upset about not covering, he tweeted, “Didn't want to cover because of too much rat poison #keptuwatching #5-0 #cometothefau #playersgetweekendoff.”

The tweet was picked up by national media outlets, questioning if Kiffin was serious. He maintains he was only kidding.

“I had no idea that safety changed the spread or who wins and who loses,” Kiffin said. punt on fourth the closing seconds. [to Western Kentucky] and be down eight points and then it’s 22-0 in the fourth quarter,” Kiffin said. “I think that now they have the confidence that we can win these games against good teams in the fourth quarter. They did it again [against Marshall].”

Kiffin said the past two games have served as sort of a reality check that will help them finish strong the remainder of the season.
