Safety earns ACC honors

Hurricanes safety Jaquan Johnson became the latest Hurricane to earn conference honors when he was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week after his performanc­e in Miami’s 28-10 win over Virginia Tech.

And against the Hokies, Johnson noteched seven tackles, forcing a fumble and intercepti­ng Hokies quarterbac­k Josh Jackson.

Johnson is the seventh Hurricane to earn ACC Player of the Week honors. kick off at noon ABC or ESPN.

According to a tweet Monday from CanesInsig­ht.com’s Peter Ariz, Hurricanes wide receiver Dionte Mullins, a sophomore, is “no longer with the Miami program.”

No reason for Mullins’ departure was given, and it remains unclear if Mullins left voluntaril­y or was dismissed. Miami official have not commented on the report, and as of Monday evening, Mullins was still listed on the Hurricanes online roster.

This weekend after Miami’s 28-10 win over Virginia Tech, Mullins — who has four catches in the Hurricanes’ eight games — took to Twitter to vent his displeasur­e with his season. In one tweet, he wrote, “It’s crazy how this man can’t give me no legit reason why he not playing me” and in another, “When you tell a coach about himself, he tells you to leave.”

Both tweets were deleted and Mullins never named whether he was referencin­g Richt or receivers coach Ron Dugans. on either
