Knights land big tight end prospect

-

The Garden City pipeline is flowing steadily for UCF, which picked up a commitment from massive tight end Nigel Kilby Sunday night.

Kilby, a 6-foot-8, 250-pound sophomore at Garden City Community College, will be the third player the Knights have lured from the Kansas junior college in the past 11 months. Linebacker Gabe Luyanda committed to UCF in December and cornerback/return specialist Mike Hughes came to UCF in August.

Kilby, who took his official visit to Orlando last week during the Austin Peay game, said his relationship with UCF assistant coaches Ryan Held and Jovan Dewitt ,as well as the presence of Luyanda and Hughes, were the instrumental factors in sealing the deal for UCF.

“Coach Held and Coach Dewitt, they’re friends with Coach [Jeffrey] Sims, who’s here at Garden City. He knew them well and I trust Coach Sims, so his word kind of helped,” Kilby said.

It also helps a prospective recruit when a team is having the type of season like UCF, which is currently 8-0 and ranked No. 18 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

“Of course being ranked and having one of the best offenses in college football, if not the best, is definitely a good reason to go there,” Kilby said, “So it was very attractive for me and I’ll be able to fit in their offense and be able to do great things with them.”

Next game: No. 18 UCF vs. UConn, ESPNU
