The 51st annual Art in the Park is making its triumphant return.

Presented by the Plantation Junior Woman’s Club for two days every fall, the family-friendly event brings attendees together in celebration of the arts and the community.

This year’s event features performances on the main stage by acts Pete DeJesse, the Drake School of Irish Dance, Jeff D Band, Nobody’s Fault, the South Florida Cloggers, ProMusic Plus, and RETRiO.

There is also food vendors plus a Kids Corner for children, featuring various activities and music.

One of the main events at Art in the Park is the Art Search competition, as the winning pieces from each grade will be on display.

The visual arts contest has challenged students in kindergarten through 12th grade to create and submit artworks in any medium with the exception of 3-D and sculptures. This year’s theme had the young artists express their interpretation of “Art in Paradise.”

Funds raised by Art in the Park are returned to the community through many of the club’s projects. The PJWC has contributed to local organizations in past years, such as the Plantation High School Art Club, the Helen B. Hoffman Library, the Young at Art Children’s Museum, and 4Kids of South Florida. The event additionally helps fund scholarships presented by the PJWC to four graduating high school seniors in the Plantation area.

The 51st annual Art in the Park kicked off yesterday and is scheduled to wrap up today at 4 p.m. at the Rae Carole Armstrong Liberty Tree Park, 7421 Northwest Fifth St. in Plantation.
