Put infrastructure before tax reform
I have observed that adverse income strategies now infect every American industry, including faithbased organizations. Income is earned by not working; drug companies prosper from illness, businesses thrive on servicing bad products, and investors flourish on debt.
The Republican tax proposal offers instant gratification, negative incentives, temporary “fixes” and long-term deficits. This ideology stokes the American nightmare wherein social and economic justice are sacrificed to the gods of the one-percent.
Infrastructure must come before tax reform. Let’s build a sound, ethical economic bridge from the nightmare to the Dream — a bridge to living-wages and meaningful work; one that supports artists, not con artists, creators, not crooks, and strategists, not swindlers. Let’s build a two-way bridge where leaders are economically and legally accountable for their greed and corruption.
The American Dream is realized when its citizens lie down at night, sheltered and safe, and when they arise, their real work can lead to real wealth. Cassandra L. Scott, Greenacres
