Pompano voters to decide on $174 million in improvements

Pompano Beach voters will be asked in a special election in March if they want to tax themselves to pay for $174 million in citywide improvements.

Among the 25 proposed projects:

An $18.8 million emergency operations center.

About $19 million to pay for putting utility lines underground from Hillsboro Inlet Drive.

About $24.8 million to upgrade Dixie Highway with roadway crossing improvements, bicycle lanes, medians, sidewalks, lighting and landscaping.

The bonds also will pay for projects the city has already committed to, such as $11 million to buy the Elks Club at 700 SE 10th St. and build athletic fields and $9 million to replace the city’s fishing pier. to Terra Mar

Next month, the city will begin an education campaign to tell residents about why the projects are proposed.

“These bonds are intended to provide funds to help reduce traffic, improve public safety and beautify our community’s public spaces and facilities,” said Sandra King, Pompano’s spokeswoman.
