Rusty Willis has joined the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County in the newly created position of Director of Community Security, where Willis will provide leadership and strategic direction toward enhancing the safety and security of all Jewish Federation staff, guests and community members. Willis will also conduct audits and consultati­on of preparedne­ss, safety, security and response, and implement effective tactics to safeguard the Jewish community including federation partner agencies, synagogues and other community organizati­ons. Prior to joining the Federation, Willis retired after a 23-year career with the FBI, where he worked in a variety of leadership positions. He was a member of the FBI’s Senior Executive Service, and served in numerous FBI field offices and headquarte­rs divisions. Matt Korshoff, senior vice president/commercial loan officer at CenterStat­e Bank in Fort Lauderdale, has joined the PACE Center for Girls Broward board of directors. The Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope announced that Irene Sobrino was named developmen­t and patient service coordinato­r, working as a liaison between cancer patients and families and those who offer resources and assistance. The orfganizat­ion offers assistance to qualified cancer patients in Palm Beach County to ease the burden of severe financial setbacks and difficulti­es.

Linda Ann Wells, a former Florida Third District Court of Appeal judge with more than two decades of appellate experience, has joined Crabtree & Auslander, the Miamibased firm announced. Hamilton, Miller & Birthisel LLP announced that Krista Fowler Acuña has joined the firm as a partner in Miami. Goldberg Segalla added associate Jonathan

E. Groth to the firm’s general liability practice group in Miami. Groth was previously with Buchalter, Hoffman & Dorchak. Board certified marital and family law attorney Abigail Beebe, owner of the Law Office of Abigail Beebe P.A., has been selected for inclusion on The National Advocate’s Executive Committee and named a Top 100 Lawyer. The committee honor is given to a select few National Advocates members to recognize their leadership skills, abilities, high level of peer respect, and client satisfacti­on.

Previously, he worked as a law clerk for Judge Adalberto Jordan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and Jorge Zamora Jr. will focus on complex labor and employment matters. In Fort Lauderdale, Lauren A. Shumate focuses her practice on complex litigation. Previously, Shumate was a Fulbright Scholar in Serbia where she taught English at the University of Nis and served as a guest lecturer on the Faculty of Law. She also worked closely with the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, assisting with rule of law and judicial reform efforts.

Gov. Rick Scott reappointe­d Gary Wendt to the Florida Polytechni­c University Board of Trustees. Wendt is chairman of Deerpath Capital Management LP.

Linda Niessen, dean and professor of the Nova Southeaste­rn University College of Dental Medicine, was named a Fellow of the American Associatio­n for the Advancemen­t of Science. She was elected by her AAAS peers.

Hospitalit­y, Restaurant­s

CIRC Hotel in downtown Hollywood announced that Kara Lundgren has been appointed general manager of the 111-room hotel, which is set to open in early 2018.The hotel will be managed by Trust Hospitalit­y. Lundgren previously worked on Trust Hospitalit­y’s oper- ations/system management task force, implementi­ng operationa­l and guest services for its Anguilla and Bryan, Texas, properties. Lundgren previously held management positions at Amara Cay Resort and Hampton Inn and Suites in the Florida Keys, Courtyard by Marriott Miami Beach and Houston Marriott Medical Center. She also was an adjunct professor of hospitalit­y at Florida Keys Community College in Islamorada. Louie Bossi’s Ristorante Bar and Pizzeria recently announced Richard Douglas as general manager in Boca Raton. Douglas joins from MGM Internatio­nal, where he was general manager at Brand Steakhouse in the Monte Carlo Hotel/ Casino. He also was general manager at the Carnevino Italian Steakhouse in Las Vegas, as well as a specialty wine sales representa­tive for J&P Wholesale, a division of Southern Wine & Spirits, and with Appellatio­n Wine and Spirits.

Gov. Rick Scott reappointe­d Les Daniels to the Health Care District of Palm Beach County. Les Daniels is the operating partner of AE Industrial Partners LLC.

Teresa C. Urquhart is the new chief operating officer at Delray Medical Center. She will manage daily operations and oversee the developmen­t and implementa­tion of long-range plans, goals and objectives for the hospital. Previously, Urquhart was chief operating officer at sister hospital Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. Broward Health announced Jennifer S. Cohen as its associate vice president of benefits and wellness.

Kaufman Lynn Constructi­on has named Jeff

Zalkin as vice president of developmen­t. Zalkin has held positions with Balfour Beatty Constructi­on and most recently, with Pirtle Constructi­on.

Sports, Lifestyle

Christophe­r Clouser of Wellington, and Hope van Beuren of Newport, R.I., have been appointed life trustees of the Internatio­nal Tennis Hall of Fame. Clouser is the immediate past chairman of the organizati­on, having served for eight years through 2015.

Michael O’Brien, general manager of the Fort Lauderdale Country Club, was recently inducted into the PGA Hall of Fame. Since 1995, O’Brien has held a variety of positions at the club, as membership chairman, awards chairman, sponsorshi­p chairman and president of the Southern chapter PGA. He is vice president of the Foundation Board.
