Bonnet House Museum & Gardens is launching a new Christmas tradition. The historic estate will be transformed into a winter wonderland for a week of Holiday Magic – with a Florida flair.

“Visitors will enjoy a festive, seasonal air and see artistically decorated Christmas trees and wreaths complimenting the Old Florida décor of Bonnet House,” said Patrick Shavloske, CEO of the nonprofit.

On Dec. 8, the Holiday Magic celebration begins with a fully catered soiree at 6 p.m. The home, veranda and courtyard will be decked out in holiday regalia. Santa and his elves will spread holiday cheer while the Broward Women’s Choral Group sings seasonal favorites.

Bonnet House fine artists have been enlisted to specially decorate the festive trees and wreaths. Guests can bid on the greens during an auction. Plus, more will be available for purchase.

“Hand-painted ornaments by the Bonnet House fine artists are available in the gift shop,” said Monica Estevez, director of marketing.

On Dec. 9, the house will be filled with music and open for self-guided tours from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Usually the Orchid fest is only time Bonnet House allows selfguided tours.

“And now on Holiday Magic, for the first time ever we’ve opened in the evening for tours,” Estevez said.

Family night takes place on Sunday, Dec. 10. Author Janie Casoria will read her book “The Littlest Christmas Bush.” Larry Roberts plays Christmas on the Keyboard. Santa and his elves will greet kids. Light snacks for the little ones will be served.

Then on Dec. 11 and 12 holiday music and tours continue.

On Dec. 13, the Broward Center Spotlights Vocal Youth Ensemble presents a live performance by 25 children from the ages of 10 to 17.

Finally on Dec. 14, the Yuletide Carolers carries on the tradition of Dickensian Caroling. The troupe dresses in elegant Victorian costumes, each unique and handmade.

Bonnet House is located at 900 N. Birch Rd. in Fort Lauderdale. Admission for the soiree on Friday is $50; evening tours are $15 for members, $20 for non-members and free for kids 12 and under. For more information and to purchase tickets, call 954-703-2614.
