NSU honored for minorities’ graduate degrees

Making it one of the top five colleges and universities to award graduate degrees to minorities, Nova Southeastern University was named in a recent study by the educational publication, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.

The magazine — which focuses on diversity in education — rated NSU fifth in the nation for the overall number of minorities with graduate degrees it produced within the last school year.

When narrowed down by department, type of degree and race, the school placed in over 16 pages of categories. Some highlights include: No. 1 in African Americans with doctorate degrees in education.

No. 1 in Hispanics with doctorate degrees in all disciplines combined.

No. 1 in total minorities with master’s degrees in allied health diagnostic, intervention, and treatment professions.

No. 1 in total minorities with master’s degrees in communication disorders sciences and services.

“It is gratifying to know that our efforts to have a truly diversified campus are successful,” said NSU President and CEO George L. Hanbury II. “I think our student population well reflects the community we are situated in.”

The report goes on to rank NSU second in Hispanic graduates and ninth in African American graduates for all graduate level degrees.

“NSU is the largest private institution in the United States that meets the U.S. Department of Education’s criteria as a Hispanicserving Institution,” according to a prepared statement.
