Cop accused of stealing $6,520 during drug search
A West Palm Beach police officer is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a home that was being searched during a narcotics investigation.
Zachary Immler, 31, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of grand theft.
Immler is the son of former Boynton Beach Police Chief Matthew Immler, according to the president of the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association.
The theft happened Oct. 25 as officers served a search warrant at a home in the of 29th Street, police 900 block said.
An occupant of the home told a supervisor on scene about money and illegal narcotics inside the residence. Agents went inside and only found narcotics.
According to police, agents later discovered the cash, $6,520, in Immler’s possession.
The stolen money was found stuffed inside a latex glove that was in a bag inside Immler’s car, police said.
Immler has been relieved of duty and placed on administrative leave.
In a prepared, emailed statement, West Palm Beach Police Sgt. Dave Lefont, a spokesman for the department said:
“The West Palm Beach Police Department holds its employees to the highest professional standards. When we learned of the potential breach of public trust, it was immediately investigated, determined to be criminal in nature, and criminal charges were filed against the employee.”
