UM picks up commitments from two recruits, including a four-star quarterback.
The Miami Hurricanes’ top-five 2018 recruiting class has its quarterback.
Jarren Williams, a U.S. Army All-American and the nation’s sixth-ranked dualthreat senior quarterback, according to Rivals and 247 Sports, committed to Miami on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2 four-star prospect out of Central Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, Georgia announced his decision with a video released from his Twitter account.
Williams appeared to be favoring the Hurricanes since decommitting from Kentucky on Oct. 28. He visited Miami on the weekend of the Notre Dame victory Nov. 11.
Also considering Auburn among his 28 offers, according to 247, Williams visited Ohio State in the weeks following his decommitment from the Wildcats.
UM’s 2018 class previously had a commitment from Bradenton IMG Academy four-star quarterback Artur Sitkowski before he backed off that pledge and committed to Rutgers on Nov. 1.
The Hurricanes had four quarterbacks on scholarship this season and none who will graduate: redshirt junior and starter Malik Rosier, redshirt sophomore Evan Shirreffs and freshmen N’Kosi Perry and Cade Weldon.
Williams completed 61 percent of passes his senior season for 3,015 yards, 28 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also ran for 554 yards and another 10 touchdowns for his team, which went 5-5.
The Hurricanes’ 2018 class, which has 21 commitments, is ranked second by Rivals, third by 247 and fourth by ESPN.
Junior RB Crowley a 3-star
Miami picked up a second commitment later Wednesday — this one in the 2019 class.
Marcus Crowley, a junior running back out of Jacksonville Trinity Christian, announced his pledge about four hours after Williams.
Crowley, rated a threestar prospect by Rivals and ESPN, also holds offers from Georgia, Penn State, UCLA and N.C. State.
