PLANTATION — Miami Country Day outscored American Heritage 28-4 to start the second half, including a 16-0 run to end the third quarter, leading the Spartans to a comefrom-behind 75-49 rout of the host Patriots.

Trailing 34-31 at halftime, the Spartans picked up the tempo to start the third quarter as they took control of the game.

Maria Alvarez’s basket for the Spartans three minutes into the third quarter gave Miami Country Day (6-3) a 38-36 lead and the Spartans would never trail again.

Later in the third quarter, leading 40-38, the Spartans rattled off 19 consecutive points, including six points during the 19-0 run by Koi Love, who finished with a game-high 27 points for Miami Country Day.

In addition to Love’s 27 points, Miami Country Day had three other players score in double figures as Jeda Theodule scored 12 points, Alvarez added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and Aasiya Berry finished with 10 points.

Heritage (3-3), which used three timeouts in the first half, waited until the score was 51-38 Spartans before taking a timeout, but by that point, the Spartans momentum had overwhelmed the Patriots and they could not recover.

American Heritage, playing a full-court defense in the first quarter, got out to an early 10-3 lead and led 20-15 after one quarter as Ty Willis scored six of the first eight points for the Patriots on a pair of made 3-pointers.

The Patriots, who led by as many as nine points in the first half, made five 3-pointers in the first half to take the halftime lead and Willis had 12 of her team-high 14 points before halftime.
