Panthers owner faces investigation
The Panthers are investigating workplace misconduct allegations against founder and owner Jerry Richardson.
The team said Friday former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles is overseeing the investigation by a Los Angeles-based law firm.
Team spokesman Steven Drummond said in a release that the Panthers and Richardson take these allegations very seriously and are committed to a full investigation.
Richardson, 81, was unavailable for comment.
Drummond told The Associated Press because the matter is under legal review, the Panthers cannot comment publicly on the specifics of the allegations.
The Panthers told the NFL that it has initiated an investigation into Richardson’s alleged workplace misconduct.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league has no comment.
Siemian sent to IR: Trevor Siemian’s season is over after the Broncos starting quarterback injured his left shoulder in Thursday’s 25-13 win over the Colts, coach Vance Joseph said.
Joseph also hinted that Paxton Lynch, and not Brock Osweiler, would start next week at against the Redskins.
Joseph said the Broncos would like to see more snaps from Lynch, who’s been a disappointment.
Peterson done: Adrian Peterson was placed on IR on Friday because of a neck injury.
The move ended the running back’s season after only six games with the Cardinals.
Extra points: Seahawks OL Germain Ifedi was fined $24,309 by the NFL for verbal abuse of a game official. Ifedi was just one of several Seahawks docked for their actions in the 30-24 road loss against the Jaguars on Sunday. Sheldon Richardson and Quinton Jefferson were both fined $9,115 for unnecessary roughness penalties. Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette was also fined $12,154 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Jaguars offensive line coach Pat Flaherty and Jaguars WRs coach Keenan McCardell were fined $10,000 each for improperly going on the field during the game . ... Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson was benched for the team’s game against the Saints on Sunday. Coach Todd Bowles said Wilkerson will not travel with the team. Bowles calls this a coach’s decision. Wilkerson was benched for most of the first quarter against the Chiefs this month for being late to a team meeting.
