UCLA extends ban for Hill, Riley

- — Associated Press

UCLA announced Friday that freshmen Jalen Hill and Cody Riley would be suspended for the rest of the season for their roles in a shoplifting incident last month in China.

Hill and Riley will not be allowed to travel with the team but can participate in team practices and meetings starting Tuesday. The school said its decision came in conjunction with the office of student conduct but offered no further details.

The freshmen have already missed 11 games as the Bruins (8-3) prepare to play No. 7 Kentucky (9-1) on Saturday at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans as part of the CBS Sports Classic.

Hill, Riley and fellow freshman LiAngelo Ball were suspended indefinitely after stealing from three stores inside an upscale mall in Hangzhou, China, last month while the Bruins were preparing to play Georgia Tech in Shanghai. Ball has since withdrawn from school.

Shannon Evans II scored 21 points and Tra Holder added 19 as No. 3 Arizona State dominated from the start in a 104-65 victory over visiting Pacific.

The Sun Devils (12-0) have been plagued by slow starts in recent games, needing to turn on their guard-driven firepower to pull away from opponents.

Arizona State jumped on Pacific (5-8) early and didn’t let the Tigers up, building a 10-point lead in the opening minutes and expanding it from there to extend the best start in school history.
