BOCA RATON Behind a massive third-quarter run, West Boca cruised past St. Andrew’s 63-37 in a girls basketball showdown.

The Bulls led just 23-21 at halftime, but went on a 20-3 run to sprint past the Scots in the teams’ final regular-season game before the holiday break.

“With us, it’s just about being consistent,” West Boca coach James Pinkney said. “We want to build consistent play throughout the whole game. In the first half, we weren’t consistent with what we were doing. The girls really picked it up in the second half.”

Shikal Gillion led West Boca with 19 points, while Douthshine Prien added 18. Sydney Rieland scored a team-high 12 points for St. Andrew’s.

The Scots, under firstyear coach Katrina Hart, battled with the Bulls early in the matchup between Boca Raton schools, trailing 14-10 after one quarter. The Scots had a chance to take the lead at halftime, but a three-point attempt at the buzzer rimmed out as they went to the locker room trailing by two.

In the third quarter, West Boca finally got into rhythm as it put the game out of reach with its lopsided run. The Bulls took a 48-28 lead into the final quarter and never looked back.

“We’re feeling we’re moving in the right direction, Pinkney said. “We think things are coming along good, but we still have some bruises we need to iron out. wdusenbury@ sunsentinel.com or Twitter @dusereport
