‘Latino USA’

The syndicated show is coming to WLRN radio.

“Latino USA” is coming to WLRN Radio.

The nationally syndicated show anchored by veteran broadcaste­r Maria Hinojosa explores news, politics, arts and culture from a Latino point of view.

Beginning Friday, the show will be broadcast 8 p.m. Fridays on WLRN, which can be heard on 91.3 FM in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami area and 91.3 FM or 101.9 FM (depending on location) in Palm Beach County.

“We’re so excited,” Hinojosa said in a video on Twitter about the show heading to Miami-based WLRN. “We tell the stories of all our America.”

The hour-long news magazine show is produced by the New Yorkbased nonprofit Futuro Media Group and is distribute­d by National Public Radio.

The weekly show’s topics have included looking at Disney’s relationsh­ip with Latin America; how families that have been separated by deportatio­ns

stay in touch through Skype; and the cultural importance of quinceaner­as for teenage Latinas and how the tradition is a form of female empowermen­t.

The show is NPR’s only national Latino-themed news program.

Hinojosa, a former CNN reporter, founded the Futuro Media Group in 2010 to tell “stories often overlooked by mainstream media.”

She also hosts the PBS documentar­y series “America By The Numbers.”
