Under-reporting on Iran doesn’t serve foreign policy

-

America’s media is doing us all a great disservice by under-reporting the breadth and gravity of the current anti-government riots all over Iran. While the mullahs [a Muslim learned in Islamic theology and sacred law] revile the young upstarts and deploy military and secret police to crack heads, our media prefers domestic stories impugning Mr. Trump. The sad fact is that we have seen this before and it doesn’t serve our foreign policies well.

In 2009, millions of young and frustrated Iranians marched in anti-government protests all over Iran. The media covered fully the heroic and poignant story of a people wanting freedom from despotic religious rule. The only bystander was then president Obama who wanted to “see how things played out.” We should have known that such would be his timid, hands-off policy in almost all Mid-East matters (except for Israel which, in my view, he despised). Ultimately the protests were crushed and the idea of a democratic Iran died.

Now, Iran has again erupted and President Trump is helping foment the movement. But the media is AWOL. The reason? The media votes 80 percent to 90 percent liberal and adores Obama. If the revolt is successful it will enlarge Trump in international circles, and contrast dramatically with Obama’s cowardice. So we see precious little of the story in our media.
