The Florida Panthers’ first game against Boston this season will have to wait.

Thursday night’s scheduled game against the Bruins at TD Garden in Boston was postponed by the NHL due to “the severe winter storm impacting the area.” A makeup date and time was not announced.

The Boston area is being impacted the “bomb cyclone” in the Northeastern United States, and is expected to receive 8 to 12 inches of snow plus wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

Thursday’s game would have been the first meeting this season between the two Atlantic Division foes, having gone the first 39 games of the season without playing. Three of Florida’s final 14 games are

scheduled to be against Boston.

The Bruins are second in the Atlantic Division with 50 points, an 11-point lead on Florida.

The focus for the Panthers now turns to getting into Detroit for their game there tonight. The team arrived in Boston on Wednesday after beginning its road trip in Minnesota on Tuesday night.

After the Red Wings tonight, Florida is scheduled to face Columbus on Sunday and St. Louis on Tuesday.

The Panthers’ five-game winning streak was snapped with a 5-1 loss to the Wild on Tuesday night. They entered Thursday five points back of the second wild card spot in Eastern Conference.
