‘I have no issue chopping someone up,’ said one message found on accused pit bull killer’s phone
HOLLYWOOD — Text messages recovered from the phone of Brendan Evans paint a chilling portrait of the man accused of killing Ollie the pit bull in October.
“I have no issue chopping someone up,” read one message he sent to his mother in August. He sent her another text the same day, threatening to go on a “killing spree on camera” if he is ever homeless again.
Evans, 31, also sent several texts to people who were trying to find homes for kittens.
I’d love to adopt kitten,” he said in one.
Those texts are among hundreds of messages retrieved from Evans’ phone by Hollywood police, shedding light on his threats of violence and obsession with animals, authorities say.
The texts, turned over to prosecutors as evidence, were obtained last week by the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
Evans, who has pleaded not guilty to aggravated animal cruelty, is set to appear in court on April 5 before Judge Martin Fein.
