Allyse Carter, of Caler Donten Levine Cohen Porter & Veil in West Palm Beach, was announced as one of the Florida Institute of CPAs “Emerging Leader” graduates. The announceme­nt was made during the Leader’s Summit in Tallahasse­e in December. Carter, a certified public accountant with the firm since 2016, was one of 34 graduates from six regions in the state. Carter, who specialize­s in personal taxation, is the secretary of the Palm Beach chapter of The Florida Institute of CPAs and a member of the Young CPAs Committee and Accounting Careers Committee.

UNIPOWER announced Sandra Huerta has joined the company as regional sales manager, in Boca Raton.

Michelle Catin was promoted to director of marketing & social media at Palace Resort, in Miami. Catin has been with the organizati­on for five years and has been managing e-commerce and social media initiative­s.

Durée Ross, president and founder of Fort Lauderdale-based full-service public relations, marketing and special events firm Durée & Company, Inc., was recently named the 2017 Bronze Stevie Award winner for Women in Business, in the Entreprene­ur of the Year — Business Services — 10 or Less Employees category.

Nonprofit

Cameron Sisser has been named vice president of External Relations at Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Sisser was previously director of external relations at Miami Lighthouse.

Law

Jamie Gelfman, an associate in Broad and Cassel’s Health Law Practice Group in Fort Lauderdale, was recently appointed editorin-chief of The Florida Bar Health Law Updates, a monthly e-publicatio­n for Health Law Section members.

Medical

Broward Health has named Andrew K. Ta, M.D., as its chief medical officer, working as a business and clinical strategist responsibl­e for the overall direction and coordinati­on of medical affairs system-wide. Most recently, Ta was with South Miami CritiCare Inc. as an attending physician for West Kendall Baptist Hospital’s Emergency Department, and as a physician clinical reviewer for NIA Magellan Health overseeing utilizatio­n, productivi­ty and quality review. Additional­ly, Broward Health Medical Center has promoted Heather L. Havericak to assistant vice president of strategic and administra­tive services. Havericak has been with the organizati­on since 2006, working in various management positions, most recently as director of product line services. She has also held the positions of regional director of Oncology Service Line, and nurse manager of the Pediatric Oncology and Sickle Cell Transition Program and Pediatric Palliative Care. Orthopedic surgeon Juan C. Suarez, M.D., has joined Baptist Health Medical Group, as part of its Miami Orthopedic­s & Sports Medicine Institute, from Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston. Testani as chief nursing officer. Previously, Testani worked at Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center as Chief Nursing Officer, overseeing patient care services at its Level I Trauma and Burn Center. The Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center has promoted Alex Masmela from Assistant Administra­tor to chief operating officer. Before that, Masmela was the administra­tive director of the emergency department. Clinics Can Help has announced the appointmen­t of Jason Pizzo, chief executive officer of I.T. Solutions of South Florida, as new board member. Clinics Can Help is a West Palm Beach based nonprofit that provides durable medical equipment for those in need. Pizzo will serve on the organizati­on’s finance committee and strategic planning committee.

Golf

GOLFTEC, a provider of golf lessons, has opened an over 2,700-square-foot golf instructio­nal and club-fitting center in Palm Beach Gardens, featuring four teaching/ practice bays, and overseeing the location is manager Chris Russell, who has taught more than 17,000 lessons at GOLFTEC since 2007.

Automotive

Gabriel Miranda, an ASE-certified collision repair technician from Miami, was recently honored with a national achievemen­t award as the Axalta Coating Systems/ASE Refinish Technician of the Year. Forty-seven automotive profession­als were recognized recently at the fall Board of Governors meeting of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence in San Diego, Calif. The awards program spotlights top scorers on the ASE Certificat­ion Tests from among the ranks of the more than a quarter-million ASE-certified profession­als nationwide. Miranda, who has been a technician for 21 years, is the owner of My Beautiful Cars LLC in Miami. He also works at In-n-Out Auto Body in Fort Lauderdale.

Real estate, property management

Members of the Women’s Council of Realtors, Greater Palm Beach County gathered recently at The Polo Club in Boca Raton for the tradition of passing of the gavel from past president Cathy Lewis to incoming president Debra Shapiro. Real estate investment group Grover Corlew announces the appointmen­t of Laura J. Goetz as vice president of property management. Goetz will oversee all property management activities for the company across three states. Goetz was most recently a district property manager for Stiles Property Management in Fort Lauderdale, where she was responsibl­e for overseeing 3.5 million square feet of retail and office space throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Ellen Mitchel, team leader of the Prestige Properties Team with RE/MAX Advance Realty, has been named vice chair of the National Associatio­n of Realtors’ Resort and Second Home Committee, and will hold the position through 2018, and then will serve as chair of the committee in 2019. The committee is tasked with updating and protecting the interests of buyers, sellers, agents, and/or managers of properties used for investment, developmen­t, and retirement, as well as second homes located in resort, recreation­al and/or vacation destinatio­ns.

Logistics

Dean Fink has been promoted to senior vice president of operations for Weston’s FSA Logistix, a final mile logistics company that serves big box retailers by delivering premium appliances and providing complex installati­on services for retailers and Etailers. Fink joined the company in 2014 and in that year became general manager of its Innovel business. In 2015 Fink was promoted to vice president operations. Additional­ly, Jeff Potter was named senior vice president of its client support center in Weston. Previously, Potter was senior director of store operations at Office Depot in a variety of roles including senior director retail of sales and services strategy. Before that, Potter led OfficeMax’s “#1” strategic retail initiative.
